Message From The Chief
"Our mission is to provide dedicated professional service and impartial law enforcement in an active partnership with the citizens of the Village of Woodridge to achieve a higher quality of life for all."
The Woodridge Police Department would like to inform people about two important changes in state law that became effective January 1st. The first change will make it illegal to use a cell phone, personal digital assistant (PDA) or portable computer to compose, send, read messages or access the Internet while driving. A driver may use an electronic device while using the device in hands-free or voice-activated mode, while parked on the shoulder of a roadway or when the vehicle is stopped due to normal traffic being obstructed and the driver has the vehicle in neutral or park. Fines for this offense start at $75.
The second change prohibits cell phone use entirely within a school speed zone, construction zone or if the driver is under the age of 19 years. Fines for this offense start at $75. Dialing on a cellular telephone can increase the chance of crashing by 1.3 times. Right now, as many as 10 percent of Illinois driver’s are estimated to be using their mobile phones while driving. The Woodridge Police Department urges motorists to drive safety and observe the rules of the road. For more information on the changes to the Illinois Vehicle Code please visit www.dot.il.gov, or contact the Woodridge Police Department at (630) 719-4740.
