Refuse & Yardwaste

Refuse
The Village of Woodridge has a "bag-n-tag" curbside collection program. With this program, a sticker must be attached to all refuse or landscape containers. You may attach the sticker to a maximum 33-gallon plastic bag or a maximum 33-gallon rigid container. Containers cannot weigh more than 60 pounds. You do not need to put a sticker on each bag placed inside the garbage can. Stickers cost $3.24 each and are good for both garbage and landscape waste. Disposal of Large Items
You may dispose of large items (furniture, bulky toys, bikes and anything else that does not fit into a container or bag) by attaching one refuse sticker to each large item and putting it out on your regular collection day. This does not include appliances (see section on " White Goods") or items over 6 in length. Call Waste Management at (800) 796-9696 for disposal of these items.

Reduce Unwanted Mail
Find out about ways that you can reduce the unwanted mail that is sent to your home by visiting www.catalogchoice.org.

Disposal of Construction and Remodeling Materials
Materials (such as carpeting or scrap lumber) must be bundled and securely tied in lengths no longer than 4 feet and 2 feet in diameter and weigh no more than 60 pounds. Materials put into containers should be no higher than the top of the container. Each bundle or container must have one refuse sticker attached. For larger amounts of construction or remodeling debris, contact Waste Management at (800) 796-9696.

Tires
Call Waste Management the day before your regular pick-up to inform them you will be placing tires out for collection.  Tires must be on rims.  A sticker must be attached to each tire.

White Goods
The Illinois EPA prohibits the disposal into landfills of any items that contain chloroflourocarbon (CFC) refrigerant gases and other environmental contaminants. These items are termed "white goods" and include refrigerators, washers & dryers, freezers, air conditioners, dishwashers, furnaces, etc. Residents must call Waste Management 48 hours in advance and advise that the white good is being placed for collection. The cost of this removal is $20.00 per white good. The charge for removal is the cost associated with bringing the appliances to a facility to have the contaminants removed.

Christmas Tree Collection
The Village does have a Christmas Tree Collection Program. On their first two scheduled pick up days in January, residents may leave  Christmas trees up to 6' tall at the curb with no sticker affixed. Trees must be removed of any decorations, wire, lights and not placed in plastic bags. Wreaths and evergreen garland will not be accepted.  Specific dates for this program are published in the Refuse and Recycling brochure sent to residents each year.  DATES FOR 2012 ARE JANUARY 2ND THROUGH JANUARY 13TH.

Amnesty Day Week
Amnesty Week is the first full week of October on your regularly scheduled pick-up day. On that day, residents are allowed to disposed of an unlimited amount of refuse by displaying 5 refuse stickers on the first 5 items (including garbage cans).  Yardwaste is not included in this program and some other restrictions apply.  Refer to your Waste management "Refuse and Recycling" brochure or call the Public Works Department at (630) 719-4753 for further details. AMNESTY DAY WEEK FOR 2012 IS OCTOBER 1ST THROUGH OCTOBER 5TH.

Latex Paint Disposal

Latex paint is not accepted at the Naperville Hazardous Waste Drop -Off Facility.

Latex paint can be disposed of in your regular garbage if properly prepared.  First allow the paint to thoroughly dry.  Ideally, the paint should be transferred to plastic bags so the rinsed empty paint containers can be recycled.  The paint may be air dried, but adding cat litter, oil dry, sawdust or another absorbent material will greatly speed this process.  Once dry, the paint may be disposed of with your house refuse.  If you let the paint dry in its original container, be sure to leave the lid off so the waste collection driver can see the paint has been dried.

The Woodridge Kin-Ko Ace Hardware located at 8625 Woodward Ave. accepts latex paint year round.  Drop off fees based on the size of the paint container are charged, so be sure to call Ace at (630) 985-0023 for the fee schedule.

Free Latex Paint for Pick Up

DuPage residents and businesses can pick up free 5 gallon buckets of latex paint.  The paint colors vary, you pick from what they have.  Stop by the DuPage County Wastewater Treatment Facility in Woodridge.

Yardwaste
Yardwaste includes grass, leaves, tree trimming debris and any other plant material. Yardwaste is a valuable resource when applied to your landscape. Mulching grass clippings and leaves back into your lawn will provide nutrients to your yard. Another possibility is to compost yardwaste on your property. Information on composting is available at Village Hall and at Public Works.

Yardwaste is collected on your regular pick-up day from April 1st through December 15th. You may put yardwaste in either a 33-gallon Kraft paper bag or an unlined 33-gallon rigid container. Brush should be packaged in bundles no more than 4 feet in length and 2 feet in diameter. Each bundle must have a yardwaste sticker attached and cannot weigh more than 60 pounds. Waste Management-Metro also rents out 60-gallon & 90-gallon toters for yardwaste.  See the Public Works web page on Forestry for information on the Village's Brush Chipping Program as another option for branch disposal.  YARDWASTE PICK UP DATES FOR 2012 ARE APRIL 1ST THROUGH DECEMBER 15TH.

Free Leaf Collection
The Village and Waste Management offer four weeks of free bagged leaf collection during the month of November.  These free pick-ups will be on the resident's first four regulary scheduled collection days in November. This program will be available to all single family residences within the Village's incorporated limits.  An unlimited number of leaves placed in Kraft paper bags or biodegradable paper bags, may be placed at the curb for collection without stickers.  The bags may be a maximum of 33 gallons in capacity and can weigh up to 60 pounds.  The bags may contain only leaves.  Sod, brush, grass clippings, and other landscape waste cannot be commingled under this leaf program and will not be picked up.  Specific dates for this event will be included in the Refuse and Recycling brochure sent to residents each year.  Leaf collection will take place on your normal collection day during this time period.  Leaves that are raked into the street pose a serious problem to traffic and to storm water drainage.  They will not be collected and the homeowner will then be subject to a fine for violation of a Village Ordinance which prohibits depositing debris onto the street surface.  Any burning of leaves is also strictly prohibited.  2012 FREE LEAF COLLECTION IS NOVEMBER 1ST THROUGH NOVEMBER 28TH.
